The Galician athlete Ana Peleteiro continues its preparations for the European Championship in Rome and for the big event of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, a competition in which its goals have changed due to the injury of the current champion, the Venezuelan. Yulimar Rojaswho will miss the French capital due to a rupture of his Achilles tendon.
“I was training to be Olympic silver and now I’m training to be a champion”declared the Spanish jumper at the press conference for the Canarias Invitational being held on the island of Tenerife this Wednesday.
Peleteiro said his partner’s injury was “a shock” but it was “honest”, as the competition changes without the presence of Rojas, who broke the world record in Tokyo with a mark of 15.74 meters.
“I arrived in Tenerife with great enthusiasm, When I was given the opportunity to join I had no doubt, I really wanted to compete in Spain and with the Spanish public,” he said.
The Spanish Olympian assured that he had a “very good feeling” in training and now it is time to think about the competition work, where “everything is very different”.
“I’m excited to see how the job goes.“The indoor track left me with a very good feeling, I don’t know what can happen tomorrow, but I’m coming for everything,” he insisted.
Peleteiro assured that he feels “very fulfilled” and that he is in a moment where the passion for athletics is “stronger than ever.”
“Being a mother has given me a lot of calm, I appreciate the little things more, I thank myself and I know how lucky I am to do something I’m so passionate about,” she said.
Peleteiro will compete this Wednesday starting at 6:00 pm at the Centro Insular de Atletismo de Tenerife (CIAT) where top national level athletes such as Bruno Hortelano or Samuel García and international athletes, such as the Swede Daniel Ståhl won the gold medal in the discus throw in Tokyo.
