The election took place this Friday, within the framework of the FIFA Congress held in Bangkok, and Brazil won with 119 votes, compared to 78 in favor of the European candidacy.
The project presented by Brazil is proposed to take advantage of part of the structure built by the country for the 2014 Men’s World Cup, and using ten of the twelve stadiums built for that event, in the same number of cities, as sub-venues .
Both the opening and the final will be at the Maracaná stadium in Rio de Janeiro, and the other sub-venues will be São Paulo, Brasilia, Salvador, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Manaus, Cuiabá, Fortaleza and Recife.
