UD Las Palmas, together with the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, will launch a awareness campaign to fight hate speech and racism in the field of sports in collaboration with LaLiga: ‘We will win this fight,’ says the initiative.
LaLiga’s support of the club led by Miguel Ángel Ramírez for this project is part of a wider collaboration with Inclusion to fight racism and discrimination inside and outside of sport through mutual projects or the exchange of tools and knowledge monitoring hate speech on social networks.
The campaign is part of European project SCORE ‘Sports cities opposing racism in Europe’led by the Spanish Observatory of Racism and Xenophobia (Oberaxe), which relies on this ministry, reported this Monday in a statement on the initiative.
Its owner, the Minister Elma Saizassured that “hateful speeches have no place in any area of our society” and predicted that LaLiga’s adherence to this project “will be a stimulus to prevent them from sports venues.”
This initiative seeks to “promote inclusion and generate debate to eliminate discriminatory behavior in sportin many cases hate speech is encouraged” and LaLiga will be expected to disseminate communication materials and visibility through various ‘online’ and ‘offline’ media.
It will take place in six European countries –SpainFrance, Greece, Ireland, Austria and Sweden – with the support of 14 entities, including the National Office to Combat Hate Crimes (ONDOD) of the Ministry of the Interior, the University of Rennes in France or the Tenerife Immigration Observatory.
Its ambassadors include athletes Aauri Bokesa, Thaylor Lubanzadio, Violeta Pérez, Antonio Liu, Nilofar Baya, Djeneba Touré, Melissa Besara, Gustavo Nazar and Juan Diego Amador Rivero.
