The rematch between the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion, the Ukrainian Olek Usyk, and British Anthony Joshua, are to be held on Aug. 20, as confirmed Wednesday by its promoter, Oleksandr Krasyuk, with “this date being the most likely.” August 13 and 20 are the two dates under consideration.
Usyk, 35, won the WBA, IBF and WBO belts in September, beating Joshua, 32, unanimously. The Briton then immediately demanded a rematch.
Krasyuk added that the rematch will take place “somewhere in the Middle East”, without giving further details even if Saudi Arabia is being considered, and said that relevant organizations will make an official announcement about against next week.
Usyk left Ukraine at the end of March, where he returned after the outbreak of the Russian aggression in February, to prepare for a possible rematch.
As for the WBA, one of the four boxing organizations in the world, the title holder, Tyson Fury of Britain, announced in April that he would retire, although his title is not yet considered vacant. Despite the suggestion of his promoter in the USA Bob Arum, ‘The Gypsy King’ reiterated that the fight with Dillian Whyte at Wembley in April was his last.
