Alonso: “I was in the wrong place, at the wrong time”

Date:

“The traffic. Obviously, maybe we weren’t the car to ride, but I think we were enough to be P7 or P8. But I found myself in the wrong place and at the wrong time,” Fernando Alonso pointed out to the international press present in Monaco after the cold water it received in qualifying this Saturday, a session that is very important on this track because of how difficult it is to overcome. The Asturian knows he has a car for more. According to him, the “be the seventh or eighth.” But it all went wrong for the Asturian due to poor timing and track position to make his Q1 attempts. He encountered too much traffic in two corners and that prevented him from moving into Q2.

People from Oviedo will have a hard time voting this Sunday. Very complicated. He will start 16th on a track where overtaking is almost impossible. He even ruled out the option of trying a crazy or risky strategy in search of the luck that smiled upon him.

“It was in Monaco. It was hard to get a clean lap here, but I think I lost three tents out of turn 11 with a car in front of me and then another two tents in the last corner with three cars parked there. Just started coming back. No one to blame now,” commented the man from Oviedo.

“I think it’s the same for everyone, because if I put those five tenths on my lap, I would have been first in Q1. So I don’t think anyone maximized the speed in Q1. It was about doing 98% laps and passing. But yes, we haven’t achieved it yet, but there’s nothing we can do now,” he added, accepting what happened.

“You can be lucky or unlucky. I think last year I was lucky and made some progress in Q2 and Q3 and second and maybe some of the big contenders were left in Q1 or out of Q2. This time is for us the bad side. But it also happened to Checo, I think, he was 18th.

CAREER GOALS

“Not crashing and trying to keep the car in one piece. Obviously, at this part of the year, we try to bring as many updates as possible, so the stock of car parts is not that big. So we just have to try to finish the career and arrive in Canada relatively prepared.

STOP EARLY WITH BOXES OR DIFFERENT STRATEGIES

“I think it’s impossible. I did it on lap 7 at Imola and on lap 8, half the grid also stopped (to respond to Alonso’s strategy). So this is what it is.”

CHANGE CLASSIFICATION IN MONACO TO AVOID TRAFFIC OR SPLIT IT INTO TWO GROUPS

“I think it would be nice. I think Monaco is so exciting and so exciting, you know, that return… that it’s nice to see everyone return live, because we miss a lot of good moments. But this is what it is.”
