Two weeks after the Champions League finals, the French government is investigating what, how and, above all, why the unrest arose that forced the start of the match between Liverpool and Real Madrid to be delayed by more than half an hour. Thousands of fans crowded the gates of the Stade de France with the aim of avoiding unguarded access controls, causing some to jump into the stadium.
During this morning’s Senate hearing, the head of security at the Stade de France confirmed that there was a serious problem with the tickets: “Only one in four is true. The others, forged using QR codes or have fraudulent copies”, he revealed in his statement, in which he added that the long queue formed was due to the fault of those who approached the stadium without tickets: “Around 60 %”, was underlined.
Paris police chief Didier Lallement assumed his responsibility: “I am the person in charge of public order and security. It failed because there were fans who pushed and attacked the entrance of the stadium. However, I must insist that in a major crisis, in a complex context, we ensure that the battles are played and above all without serious injuries or fatalities ”, he explains.
Lallement took the opportunity to defend the need to use tear gas: “This is the only way to push the masses without having to charge for it. And it will work. I know that good -natured people, families with children, are involved, and I’m sorry, but there is no other solution. We don’t consider that there were so many fans with false tickets ”, he reasoned. Starting 2:30 pm, the Senate will also hear the French Federation and the Mayor of Liverpool.
