El Rayo celebrates its centenary with an emotional party in Vallecas

Rayo Vallecano celebrated its centenary this Wednesday with an emotional party in their stadium and in almost the entire stand, which presented a special atmosphere to enjoy a match of club legends against another historic player of the Spanish League, winning 2-4.

One hundred years ago, on May 29, 1924, El Rayo Sports Group was officially born. on Nuestra Señora del Carmen street, now called Puerto del Monasterio. On that date, and in the home of Prudencia Priego, Julián Huerta, a civil guard, became the first president after drafting the laws of the entity and his brother Juan became the captain of the team that played in its matches with the first year in the field on Erillas Street.

To celebrate the anniversary, More than ten thousand people attended the Vallecas Stadium to enjoy a very special afternoon that began with a tribute to various personalities in the history of Rayo such as Felix Barderas ‘Felines’ or José González de la Vieja ‘bottle’, wearing an exclusive t-shirt this centenary.

Before the opening whistle, one of the most emotional moments was experienced as both teams walked out, and the entire stadium stood up, Rafa Garrido, 85 years old and number one partner.

On the grass, and in a very colorful atmosphere, with constant chanting and flags waving in the wind, the match began, which was very colorful with four goals in the first half. The two of the Rayo legends team, the work of the Argentine Emiliano Armenteros and the LaLiga legends team of David Villa and Ruben de la Red. In the second half, LaLiga legends completed the victory with goals from Portillo punishment and Juanfran Torres.

The match had a charitable purpose as all proceeds went to the Luzón Foundation and its fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
