Saturday at Roland Garros will allow us to finish the third round of the tournament. One of the last duels of the day was the one between Jozef Kovalik and one of the candidates for the surprise in Paris, Holger Rune.
The Dane, 13th seed, continues to fail at major tournaments, as he showed on Thursday in his second round match. He faced the Italian Flavio Cobolli in a match in which he started as a clear favorite, and in which he started clearly dominating.
After scoring the first two sets 6-4, 6-3, the usual Dane ghosts began to appear. and he began to fail more than necessary to allow his rival to start a comeback (3-6, 3-6) which brought the match to a painful tiebreak in the fifth set which did not start well for him.
He lost the first five points, seemingly the end of his adventure this year in Paris. However, from that moment everything changed and Rune’s reaction started and ended up taking the tiebreaker 10-7.
He himself explained after the game what, and more importantly, who, helped him in delicate moments: neither more nor less than the great Roger Federer.
“When I found myself 0-5 down in the super tiebreak I turned my brain off. That rest gave me confidence. I remember Federer, when he faced Sandgren in Australia and back. Roger is always very relaxed when playing and I told myself to relax. Because of that, I started to have more freedom with my shots,” Rune explained in a press conference that, if he sees Kovalik, he will face Alexander Zverev in the round of 16.
