Rocket Mortgage severed business ties with Bryson DeChambeau after he decided to shift his allegiance from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf Invitational Series. DeChambeau has not officially announced his decision, but a statement by his former sponsor on Thursday confirmed what several reports said last week.
“Rocket Mortgage has long been a partner of the PGA Tour, both through our role as official partner and host of the tournament.”A spokesman for Rocket Mortgage said, Aaron Emerson, this is a statement. “The Rocket Mortgage Classic has quickly become a fixture on the Tour, with players coming to Detroit to compete while raising significant funds to help bridge the digital divide in our city. Our partnership with the PGA Tour extends to several prominent golfers, including Bryson DeChambeau, as ambassadors of the Rocket Mortgage brand, ”the brand said.
“Effective immediately, Rocket Mortgage terminated its endorsement agreement with Bryson. We wish him the best in his future, “he added.
DeChambeau is expected to join LIV for its first U.S. event in Portland, Oregon later this month. The controversial series began for the first time on Thursday in London.
The 28-year-old star won the 2020 US Open and climbed to No. 4 in the world rankings. He became a partner at Rocket Mortgage shortly after winning the Rocket Mortgage Classic earlier that year.
DeChambeau has not played since the Masters. He underwent surgery to repair a broken bone in his left wrist in April after missing two months in the PGA Tour season due to injuries to his wrist and hip labrum.
Dustin Johnson and Graeme McDowell lost the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) as sponsor after playing the LIV Golf London Invitational instead of the RBC Canadian Open this week. Many sponsors cut ties Phil Michaelson earlier this year after his comments about Saudi Arabia and LIV came out.
