The former vice president of Valencia Miguel Zorío filed a complaint with Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office for the alleged crimes of unfair administration, document falsification and money laundering against Peter Lim, Layhoon Chan and the company Meriton Holdingsthe largest shareholder of Valencia, for allegedly sending 23 million euros to Meriton from the club in 2022 and 2023 without this money “being collected in the accounts presented at the meeting of shareholders.”
Zorío assures, in a statement, that, if proven, it will “show how Meriton removed the club” and to this end he presented the documentation to the Prosecutor’s Office which in his opinion shows that in the years 2022 and 2023 is the company that owns the majority shareholding of the entity that invoiced the club 17,200,000 euros and 6,147,000 euros, with the aim of “recovering the illegally capitalized loans”.
“These amounts can be used for Meriton to allegedly illegally recover the debt capitalized in 2022 of 17,600,000 euros and to pay the salaries of Lay Hoon Chan in Asia, since the president did not declare any income in Spain, as shown by the documentation sent,” underlined. Zorío, leader of the Marea Valencianista collective, who is a staunch opponent of Peter Lim in the club.
Also, Zorío criticized that the 2017 Valencia CF Shareholders’ Meeting decided to close the company Valencia CF Asia Ltd, founded by Peter Lim in Singapore a year before, a decision that “did not materialize” according to Zorío, emphasizing that the company is in operation. “with an important commercial movement with the club that does not appear in the audited annual accounts” and that, according to Zorío data, “Valencia CF SAD invoiced its subsidiary 2,600,000 euros in the years 2022 and 2023.”
“It is also very important to observe how the club is emptied to pay Meriton: just one example, the sponsorships of TM Real State – for two years – and Puma – until 2029 – are billed in full in 2023 for 6.2 million and 23.9 million euros respectively, these are what they call levers in Barcelona, but while they served to strengthen the team, win the league last year and carry out the works in the stadium, here they are serves to make it likely that Meriton will share capital without investing a single euro,” denounced Miguel Zorío.
Suspicious commercial exchange in Barcelona
Similarly, Zorío assures that there is another “surprising and suspicious” fact in the commercial relationship of the club, in this case, with a bazaar of Chinese products somewhere outside Barcelona, ’Hi ha de tot’ bazaar and that “last year it transferred 2,975,000 euros in commercial exchanges with Valencia CF.”
“Peter Lim and Lay Hoon must explain what kind of services Valencia CF offers in a market outside of Barcelona to charge them almost three million euros,” insisted Zorío, who for all this asked the prosecutor asked the Tax Agency and Valencia CF the 347 declarations of Valencia CF since 2014 – when Peter Lim took the majority shareholding of the club until now – and “the movements of money of SAD with the dominant company, including group companies and participating companies, including agents of players directly related to Peter Lim and all strange and illegal movements that may show unfair management of the company, among other corporate crimes .
