The team Ineos has not authorized the participation of Colombian Egan Bernal in the Paris 2024 Olympic Gamesthat’s why the winner of the Tour de France will be replaced by Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious) in the test to be held on August 3.
This was reported by the Colombian Cycling Federation, which detailed in a statement that Bernal “finally did not receive permission from his team to participate in the Olympic Games, so the Technical Committee of the Federation decided that the quota goes to Santiago Butitrago.
The Bahraini runner, who will join Daniel Felipe Martínez (Bora) in the road test, is supported by the good results he has obtained this season, as he won the fourth stage in Paris-Nice; to finish runner-up in the Vuelta a la Comunidad Valenciana and be fifth in Flecha Wallona.
“Also, the two stages he won in the Giro d’Italia stand out, in the 2022 and 2023 seasons and the Vuelta a Burgos 2022,” the information added.
Buitrago will join the Colombian team after completing his participation in the Tour de France to participate in the Olympic Games for the first time.
On the other hand, the Colombian Cycling Federation also chose Paula Patiño to compete in the long-distance event in what will be her second Olympic experience, after Tokyo 2020.
