Panamanian Adalberto ‘Coco’ Carrasquilla and the American Tim Weah were punished with two game suspensions each for in-game ejections of Panama-State join last Thursday at America Cupaccording to ESPN and The Athletic.
Besides missing the last day of the group stage where this Monday the United States will face Uruguay and Panama against Bolivia, they will also be left out of the possible quarterfinals. In fact, Panama and the United States are competing for second place in the group that gives access to the qualifying rounds, as Uruguay almost qualified and Bolivia was almost eliminated.
Weah was sent off with a straight red card in the 18th minute for attacking Panamanian Roderick Miller with a blow to the head. Carrasquilla also received a straight red card for a nasty tackle from behind on Christian Pulisic in the 88th minute as Panama won that match 1-2.
After the game, the Juventus forward apologized on his social networks for the early dismissal that left one of his team out for most of the game. “Today I let my team and my country down. A moment of frustration led to an irreversible consequence, and for that, I am deeply sorry to my teammates, coaches, family and our fans,” Weah said.
