The center of France Vincent Poirier will miss the Paris Olympics after injuring his ankle during training, as announced by the French Basketball Federation last night.
Poirier injured his left ankle on Friday during a training session and medical tests carried out on Saturday showed he needed “a period of rest incompatible with returning to preparation and participation in the Olympic Games,” the Federation said in a statement.
The Olympics begin on July 26 and Poirier will not be replaced, as the national coach, Vincent Collet, currently has at his disposal a group of 16 players that must be reduced to 12 for the tournament.
Poirier, 30 years old, 2.13 meters tall and with 60 caps, has only signed for Turkish Anadolu Efes for three seasons after spending the last three and a half at Real Madrid, where he won two Ligas, a Euroleague, one Cup and three Super Cups. EFE
