The first of eight Spanish players crashed out in the men’s draw at Wimbledon, which starts this Monday at the All England Club in London. A few hours before the start of the Grand Slam on grass, an official statement pointed to the news.
“Alexander Davidovich has been sidelined with a back injury. Will be replaced by Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard“, French player who was the ‘lucky loser’ (from the previous stage) who became the American’s new rival Sebastian Korda.
Davidovich, 21 years old and world number 36, withdrew from the Eastbourne ATP tournament before playing. He first competed in the grass event at Queen’s, losing to Chilean Alejandro Tabilo.
The Andalusian was left without Wimbledon, where he was champion in the junior category. His best ever, the third round of 2023, when he didn’t get a victory he could afford against the Dane Holger Rune.
The tournament also revealed the German’s absence Dominic Koepfer, wounded in the left ankle. In his place came another Frenchman, Luca Van Assche.
