Andrew Gudjohnsenson of the legendary Icelandic ex-Barça player, Eidur Gudjohnsen, will experience a new adventure in his professional career next season. After a summer break due to friendlies played with his national team, the young 22-year-old forward had his first training session at his new club, the KAA Gent.
The Belgians made the official transfer of the Icelandic striker in June from Lyngby BK, where Andri played one season. His good performances and his 15 goals in 33 games were responsible for the Danes avoiding relegation, and for Gent to pay a sum close to 3 million euros to acquire his services until 2028.
Despite giving his first touch on the ball at the Barça youth academy following in his father’s footsteps, Andri ended up joining the ‘white factory’ after a spell at Espanyol and Gavà. The Icelander played one season with Raúl’s Castilla in the First Federation where he scored four goals.
Due to lack of continuity and injury problems, he ended up moving to Swedish IFK Norrköping, where physical problems and lack of minutes continued to hinder his development. Lyngby knocked on his door and thanks to a loan he was able to show the potential he had stored in his boots. The Danes exercised the short purchase option that their loan had, so this move to Gent turned out to be a good move by Lyngby.
