Ruud’s long-awaited blow came at Wimbledon

The Norwegian Casper Ruud prolonged his well-known grass allergy and lost in the second round of Wimbledon to the rejuvenated Fabio Fognini by 6-4, 7-5, 6-7 (1) and 6-3.

Ruud is the only tennis player in the ‘top 100’ not to have played a grass court tournament before Wimbledon and he paid for it with a resounding defeat against the Italian, who at 37 is ranked 94 .

Ruud’s victory in his debut match Alex Bolta good player on grass, is a mirage for the Norwegian, who hardly has any options against the Italian, beyond a threat of a comeback by overcoming a 5-2 deficit in the third set.

Fognini returned to the third round of Wimbledon for the seventh time in his career, this being the ceiling of his performances at the All England Club.

Transalpine will face his countryman Lorenzo Sonego or in Spanish Roberto Bautista for a place in the round of 16.

Casper Ruud, having ensured that the grass is for playing golf, one of his passions, and not tennis, will return to his beloved clay. Among his appointments, the ATP in Bastad, where he also plays doubles with his admired Rafael Nadal.
