Scariolo, Santi Aldama, Sergio Llull… anyone who spoke about the Bahamas at the end of the battle against Finland insisted on the same thing, the ability of the Bahamas to develop one-on-one situations, and more than all to score.
“In one-on-one we have no choice,” commented Scariolo, who claimed Alberto Díaz’s excellent game, but focused on the need to prepare in just twenty-four hours against a Bahamas team with “three NBA superstars,” like Eric Gordon, Buddy Hield and DeAndre Ayton.
“They have players from another dimension,” Scariolo explained, who asked “to limit the performance of their great stars but without neglecting the others,” such as the young Valdez Edgecombe Jr, who at just eighteen years old has emerged as a great ‘covered’ from a selection that boasts about its NBA.
For Scariolo, the key is to be “more connected than ever” after the victory against Finland where they know they “won’t lose control” despite the fact that “when it’s a life or death match it’s not easy.”
The same idea was repeated a few minutes earlier by Santi Aldama, who after hearing the horn and heading to the locker room explained that the big problem Spain could have against Christopher DeMarco’s team is that “many players can create without needing of a system.” That anarchy was the terror of a team that ended up “so eager to rest and recover strength” for a match worth a ticket to the Olympic Games.
Aldama, who finished with fifteen points and was three of five from the three-point line, emphasized that he was not “worried about anything special,” but rather that “they have the ability to make very difficult shots .”
