More bad news for Barcelona in the form of injuries in national team competitions in just a few hours. Ronald Araujo suffered a muscle problem in his right leg in the 30th minute of the Copa América quarterfinal match between Uruguay and Brazil and left the pitch in tears.
The Uruguayan center back came out to cover a lateral center from Arana and when he stretched his right leg he suffered an apparent injury. The Barça player fell to the ground and put his hands on his face. Teammates and rivals quickly became closer and Uruguayan medical services immediately requested a change.
Ronald Araujo left the field in tears and was replaced by José María Giménez. The Uruguayan central defender has a long history of muscle mishaps (he has eight since his debut for Barça in 2019) and, while waiting to know the diagnosis and if there is a tear, the sensations given by the player seem his preseason is worrying and could condition Hansi Flick’s team.
Araujo’s disaster came hours after the injury diagnosis of Pedri, who suffered a grade 2 internal lateral sprain in his left knee following Kroos’ challenge in the Spain-Germany quarterfinal of the Euro Cup, was revealed. The canary will be gone in about a month.
