The rain doesn’t stop Wimbledon. Center and 1 court ceilings ensure that there is continuous competition, but they are not enough to maintain the order of play designed by the organization, either on a daily basis or in the overall calendar.
The tournament announced this Tuesday a change in the finals program, significant because the men’s singles will not close this edition.
“Due to the continuous rainy weather during the last eight days of play, we have not been able to complete all the first round mixed doubles matches. The Programming Committee has decided that it will not be possible to play the mixed doubles final on Thursday, and therefore has made a decision to review the finals calendar,” said a statement signed by Jamie Bakertournament director.
He said “this gives us maximum flexibility to complete the championship on time and play all our respective finals on center court.”
Individual days and times are maintained. The roofs of the two main stadiums protect it. On Saturday, the women’s final and on Sunday, the men’s. Both from 2:00 pm local time, 3 pm Spanish peninsular time. Although the mixed event will conclude the event, only after the men’s title is decided.
