The Spanish Carlos Alcarazthe second youngest finalist of Miami Masters 1,000confirmed this Friday, once he met the Norwegian Casper Ruud in Sunday’s finals, that he will try to “play the final as if it were the first round”.
“I have a lot of emotions right now, I think it’s every child’s dream. A final here is incredible, I love playing here, the fans are fantastic,” Alcaraz said in the courtside interview.
“I’m going to play like it’s a first round to hide the roots, I want to enjoy and it’s going to be a great final,” he added.
Alcaraz, 18 years and 11 monthswon the lone previous confrontation with Casper Ruud, 6-2 and 6-4 last year in Marbella.
To advance to the final, Alcaraz was able to defeat Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the current tournament champion, by 7-6 (5) and 7-6 (2), after an elaborate battle, though, in which his rival stands out for his strong serving.
“I can’t go on now, and I know it’s a long set, 7-6, 7-6. Eventually I said, ‘All right, let’s go to the tiebreaker.’ I had to risk my choices, ”Alcaraz said.
