Casey Stoner is one of the named MotoGP fantastic four along with Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa. The Australian pilot amazed the world with the Ducati and he was proclaimed world champion in 2007. Then in 2008 he had a great fight to retain the title exactly with ‘Il Dottore’ which ended up falling to Rossi’s side.
Their rivalries had scuffles on and off the court. Battles like the one at Laguna Seca in 2008 have gone down in the annals of history. The press conferences were not very calm with a few crossed messages. The Australian spoke about the power of the media.
“Before Pedrosa arrived, Lorenzo and I, Valentino had entered the minds of the other drivers, but we knew his tricks. Valentino was so important to all kinds of media, they couldn’t put him on their blacklist, so they made me a villain.“said the two-time world champion on the Ducati Diaries podcast.
Stoner was also asked about the famous SepangClash between Rossi and Márquez in 2015. The Australian was very clear: it was Rossi who was asking for trouble by interfering with someone he shouldn’t have
“The thing is, Marc, to some extent, deserves the criticism. Everyone blames Márquez for all of that, but they forget that Valentino started it. They were friends before; and then Valentino started a war of words. And Marc fought back, because he didn’t want that.”
