The English team could not break its spell and lost its second consecutive European Championship final. If in 2021 it was against Italy at Wembley, now it is against Spain in Berlin. This is how Gareth Southgate’s players performed.

PICKFORD Firm

The Everton goalkeeper kept England alive after 1-0 with some decisive saves and, at 1-1, by blocking another key shot from Lamine Yamal.

WALKER is requested

He made a spectacular waste of his powers in the first half to stop Nico Williams and double the attack. After the break he held his position in defense as the Spanish push challenged him.

STONE Worthy

Careful with the cut to prevent Spain from having chances in the first half, then they had problems with balls in space.

GUÉHI Overcome

They played a decent game overall, although they suffered when Spain had space in attack and were ultimately unable to stop Oyarzabal from scoring the goal that decided the final. He managed to pull one back in added time but his header was cleared off the line by Dani Olmo.

THEN Opaque

Cucurella was in control for 70 minutes of the game, there was no news from him until the full-back lost his position and their attack ended at 1-1.

MAINOO Discreet

The young Manchester United midfielder could not leave his mark in the final count in other games, although he tried to contribute until he was sacrificed to bring on Palmer when Spain opened the scoring.

RICE Irregular

The Arsenal midfielder is not as accurate as before in stealing the ball and delivering it. They had a tie in extra time but Unai Simón saved it.

SHAW worker

England’s great novelty. He played his first game as a starter in the Euro Cup with the goal of stopping Lamine Yamal. He got it in the first half, but the first time the Barça player came on, it was 1-0. He tried to cover the gaps as best he could.

FODEN Blurry

Southgate entrusted him with the mission of blocking Rodri, his City teammate who had to come off at half-time. The best player in the Premier did not stand in the final, as in the rest of the tournament, and ended up being replaced.

BELLINGHAM Featured

He had an interesting rivalry with Carvajal where they forgot about being teammates at Real Madrid. A few sparks flew between the two, so the Englishman focused on his position in the second half and delayed it further. He significantly improved the performance he showed in the tournament, had several chances and provided an assist to make it 1-1.

KANE Not noticing

His time in the final did not match his great class, he tiptoed into the game and Southgate stopped his captain on the hour mark.

WATKINS Cancelled

He relieved Kane on the hour mark but, unlike in the semi-finals, this time his entry on the field did not have the same effect.

PALMER Disgusting

As was the case against the Netherlands in the semi-finals, his introduction, this time in place of Mainoo, acted as a catalyst and put England into the final with a tie.

TONEY resource

He came on at the end for Foden after England had conceded a 2-1 lead, but Southgate’s desperate attempts to gather forwards came to nothing.
