The winner of the 152nd British Open at Royal Troon (Scotland) will receive $3.1 million in prize money. The ‘Champion Golfer of the Year’ will receive the highest prize in the history of the Open, which returns for the tenth time on the links located in the county of Ayrshire.
He RA announced that the total endowment for the Open, to be played from July 18 to 21, will be $17 million, representing an increase of $500,000 compared to 2023.
Martin Slumbers, CEO of The R&A, said in a media statement: “The R&A has a responsibility to strike a balance between maintaining The Open’s position in global sport, providing the necessary funding for the management and development of amateur and recreational golf in 146 countries in worldwide. We need to make decisions if we want to continue the significant growth in participation that is important for the future of golf. We are pursuing our goal of making sure golf continues to thrive 50 years from now.”
