These are the main data to follow the 152nd British Open at Troon

Date:

In 151 edition of The Open -as the British call the fourth Grand Slam-, there have been 89 ‘Champions of Golfers of the Year’. 27 players have won the British Open more than once, while 62 editions have produced repeat winners.

The longest period of first-time winners was from 1994 to 2004, with 11 first-time champions during this period, from Nick Price (Zim) to Todd Hamilton USA).

The current streak is ten first-time champions, starting with Phil Mickelson (USA) in 2013 to Brian Harman (USA) last year.

There are 19 former champions playing at Royal Troon this year, equaling the record for most field appearances set at Saint Andrews in 2015.

There were 12 amateur golfers in the field, two of them Spanish: Luis Masaveu and Jaime Montojo. This is the largest number of amateurs playing since 1987, when there were 13.

Montojo and Masaveu join Spanish professionals Jon Rahm, David Puig, Jorge Campillo, Nacho Elvira and Ángel Hidalgo.

Swede Ludvig Aberg makes his Open debut and is looking to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Henrik Stenson, the 2016 champion at Troon.

The prize pool for the 152nd British Open is set at $17.5 million, an all-time record

In the nine previous editions of the Open at Royal Troon there have been nine different champions: Arthur Havers (1923), Bobby Locke (1950), Arnold Palmer (1962), Tom Weiskopf (1973), Tom Watson (1982), Mark Calcavecchia (1989 ), Justin Leonard (1997), Todd Hamilton (2004) and Henrik Stenson (2016). An Englishman, a South African, six Americans and a Swede.

For this 2024 edition, the course’s par is 71 and the length in yards is 7,385, 195 more than the 2016 total.

Royal Troon is now the third longest links in Open history. At 623 yards, hole 6 (Turnberry) is now the longest hole used for the Open (previously Royal Liverpool’s 15th in 2023 at 620 yards).

Hole 8 (Postage Stamp) is the shortest hole of the set (route) of courses hosting the Open (123 yards). 4 holes in one are made.

For the first time in 41 years, Ivor Robson, who died in October, will not be the official starter (master of ceremonies on the 1st tee). A British legend.
