Nadal, in favor of the next ATP reform: "I think this is a winning formula"

Date:

On June 9, the new strategic plan ‘OneVision’ was unveiled, which aims to promote the Masters 1000 tournaments within the tennis calendaran initiative welcomed by most tennis players, including Rafa Nadal.

I think this is a winning formula. We need to bring the Masters 1000 closer to the Grand Slams “said the Roland Garros champion speaking to the ATP director, Andrea Gaudenziwhere he stressed that “we lose a lot of energy in debating with ourselves, tournaments are fighting for their interests and players are fighting for them”.

‘OneVision’ will have an impact on the 2023 calendar of the two most important tournaments played in Spain. The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-Trofeo Conde de Godó and the Mutua Madrid Open are held in consecutive weeks, with a difference of three days between the final in Barcelona and the start at Caja Mágica. No one week pillow in between. Although the top seeds will have more margin to not be exempt from opening rounds.

The Masters 1000 of Monte Carlo (April 9 to 16), Godó (April 17 to 23), Madrid (April 26 to May 7) and Rome (May 10 to May 21) will be held consecutively.. A week is gone for the benefit of the growth of the Caja Mágica and Foro Italico events.

The Masters 1000 grows in days, from 8 to 12, to accommodate the main draw which grows from 56 to 96 players. Economic rewards should rise by 35% between 2023, when they launch a new format in Madrid, Rome and Shanghai, and 2025, when they join both Canada and Cincinnati.

Indian Wells and Miami are approaching two weeks of tournament, while Monte Carlo and the ‘indoor’ in Paris will continue to be eight -day competitions.

El Godó will maintain its week’s single ATP 500 status, which it will continue to share with ATP 250 in Belgrade. Although in 2023 there will be another ATP 250 tournament on the same dates, one in Munich.

The Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP) ensures that the new ‘OneVision’ plan includes an audit of tournament accounts with the goal of distributing fifty percent of revenues between events and tennis players.
