The International Boxing Association (IBA) mourned the death of Lionel Elika Fatupaitocoach of the Samoan boxing team, in the Olympic Village at the Paris 2024 Games.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Lionel Elika Fatupaito, Samoa’s national boxing coach, who has tragically passed away,” the organization said of the coach’s death on Friday, initially due to an attack in the heart
“Lionel’s dedication and passion for the sport left an indelible mark on the boxing community. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Our thoughts and prayers are with the team of Samoa and all affected by this severe loss, says IBA .
Luafalealo Paige Talalelei, president of the Samoan Olympic Committee, also confirmed and regretted the death of the technician, recognized as one of the main trainers of the country who was in the French capital in the preparation of boxer Tupuola Ato Plodzicki-Faoagali.
