The Cabildo of Gran Canaria will allocate between five and six million euros to the remodeling of the stadiums of Maspalomas (San Bartolomé de Tirajana)El Hornillo (Telde) and Piletas (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) for training for the 2030 World Cup.
The insular Sports Councillor, Aridany Romero (PSOE)informed journalists of these actions on the occasion of the debate he participated in ‘Canarias 7’ with the president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales (RA-NC)about the impact and benefits of hosting the 2030 World Cup for the island, such as improving sports facilities.
The renovations of the three football fields mentioned above will be financed through an additional investment plan, said Morales, and They are added to the one that will take place at the Gran Canaria Stadiumwhich will require an investment of 107 million euros, 101.1 for expansion and another 5.8 million for editorial of the project and the optional work direction.
Work to be carried out in a two year period so that it will be completed in 2027, an action that will be carried out in stages and will not affect the league, Romero indicated, as they have done in other stadiums such as El Arenal.
World Cup players will also be counted among them training at the UD Las Palmas headquarters in Barranco Secothe counselor pointed out.
Both Morales and Romero emphasized that having successfully hosted the World Cup has been froute of a job that started more than two years ago and that ended satisfactorily.
Morales insisted that this is “a historic milestone” because of the relevance of the sporting event to be held in Gran Canaria but a “important challenge” and an economic and social opportunitywhich will allow the remodeling of the infrastructure where the European teams can later train.
“They chose us because we meet the conditions” to be the place, he added, because the island has the appropriate logistics for an event of these characteristics from a health point of view, as well as accommodation for hotel plant that the island hasa sector where they have to agree on the beds needed.
Morales reported that the Cabildo will commission a study to find out the economic impact of celebrating the World Cupfrom awarding the works to be performed.
