Jon Rahm continues to find good sensations in Le Golf National, next to Versailles, and in the second round of 66 strokes (-5), for 133 (-9), he remains with clear options in the fight for medals of Paris men’s golf tournament 2024. He was fourth alone with two of leaders Xander Schauffele, Tommy Fleetwood and Hideki Matsuyama.
The Barrica native improved on Friday’s first-day 67 strokes, although he did not add a new eagle to the two made on the first day. Of course, he started his second round in great fashion, with three birdies in the first four holes.
He was unstoppable, with good approach shots and fine putting. But on the 8th hole, a par 3 that had already given him problems on Thursday, he repeated the bogey of the first day.
He came close to taking shots off the course on the following holes, but it wasn’t until the final stretch that he did so. He made birdies on 14, 15 and 16, and made par on the last two, especially with a remarkable putt on 18.
The American Xander Schauffele, recent winner of the British Open, as well as the PGA and gold in Tokyo’2021, leads with a total of 131 (-11), after his 66 in the second round. He is the equivalent of the Japanese Matsuyama and the Englishman Fleetwood.
Matsuyama reached the final hole of the second round as the solo leader, but a double bogey clouded his score, leaving him at 68 (-3) and leaving Schauffele and Fleetwood to chase him for the tournament lead. The Englishman also had the option of finishing the second day as the leader, but a bogey on the 18th prevented him from doing so.
Catalan David Puig has 138 (-4), after repeating a 69 in his second second round, with four birdies and two bogeys.
