A ‘double bogey’ halts Jon Rahm’s good start

Date:

Jon Rahmmaking his first Olympic appearance at Paris 2024, scored a double bogey on his penultimate hole on what was an impressive course, with two eagles, to deliver a card of 67 (four under par) that leaves him in the top ten and, momentarily, four blows from the head.

Rahm, coming off winning a tournament on the LIV circuit and one of the clear favorites for a medal in the men’s golf tournament held at Le Golf National, located in Guyancourt (Paris), is about to deliver an impressive -long round , with two ‘eagles’ (holes 3 and 14), both par 5 covered by 3 strokes.

In addition, he added four birdies (9, 12, 13, 17), but failed with two bogeys (7, 8), but mainly a ‘double bogey’ at the 16th prevented him from placing in the fleeting second position. But, without doubt, a more than hopeful start to remove the disappointment of not being able to go to the Tokyo Olympics due to Covid.

Another Spanish representative, David Puig had a good 69 (-2), with five birdies and three bogeys.

The temporary leader, with fifteen players left to complete his round, is the Japanese Hideki Matsuyama, with 63 (-8), with eight birdies.

Other notable medal candidates, such as the Americans Xander Shauffele, recent British Open winner, finished with a 65 (-6)and Scottie Scheffler, world number one, finished with a 67 (-4), while Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy had a 68 (-3).
