Jon Rahm carded an impressive second round of 62 strokes and positioned himself as the new leader of Greenbrier LIV Golf with two advantages over the four chasers, the Australian Luke Herbert (63), English Richard Bland (64) and the Americans Brooks Koepka (64) and Talor Gooch (65).
The Basque, 29 years old and world number 10, produced an eagle, seven birdies and a bogey, a sensational card of 62 to join the 64 on Thursday, when Jon also shone with an eagle and four that birdie without a mistake.
Rahm, therefore, is in a privileged position to win his second title this Sunday in the millionaire Saudi Super League: golfer debuts his record at LIV Manchester Golf (England), before facing the Olympic tournament in Paris.
Jon experienced a tremendous disappointment at the Games because, in the final holes, he threw away an advantage that would have given him the win and Olympic gold had he not been so flawed in that final stage. In fact, the Spaniard did not even get a medal and, from the 5th position, he saw the American climb the podium. Scottie Scheffler (gold), the British Tommy Fleetwood (silver) and Japan Hideki Matsuyama (copper).
The man from Castellón had seven birdies without a bogey Sergio Garcia (63) was also successful on the second day of the Greenbrier and tied for 10th place, four shots behind Rahm, who still has a chance to fight for the title.
The Greenbrier is the penultimate tournament of the LIV Golf season, its resolution coming next month Chicago. Rahm and García are among the six players who mathematically aspire to be the champion of the season, along with the Chilean Joaquin Niemannenglish Tyrrell HattonSouth Africa Louis Oosthuizen and the Australian Cameron Smith.
