That’s not what happened in the pole vault qualification round, but what happens in the final, where Barring a major surprise, the Swede will winwho took the first day of the competition as a training session, with a permanent smile on his lips, relaxed in his way of walking and talking to his rivals, like the Filipino Jhon Obiena, where he even sat on the floor from the purple track to talk.
Qualifying for the final was closed with 5.75 meters, a mark far removed from the 6.24 recognized by Duplantis, who leads the list of eleven pole vaulters competing for medals.
Among those candidates is American Sam Kendrickswhich, with 6.06 meters, proves the best mark of all other participants after the Swede.
Duplantis, 24, is looking to continue extending in Paris a record that includes, despite his youth, an Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020, two World Cups (2022 and 2023) outdoors and two indoors (2022 and 2024), three external Europeans (2018, 2022 and 2024) and one internal (2021).
The pole vault final will be held on Monday, August 5, starting at 7:00 pm (CET).
