This Monday, Jannik Sinner and Frances Tiafoe will play for the Cincinnati Masters 1000 title. They did so after defeating, respectively, Alexander Zverev (7-6, 5-7, 7-6) and Holger Rune (4-6, 6-1, 7-6) in two hard-fought semifinals decided in tiebreak of the third set and that left us with points to remember.
Zverev was serving to close out the first set when he found himself with a surreal rest the Sinner’s balloon form forced him to retreat and hit the bottom of the legs.
After attempting a passing pass, he ran into a great volley from the Italian, sealing the point with a comfortable shot into the net. 5-5 extended the set and Sinner ended up in a tiebreak.
Undoubtedly, a good point that was overshadowed by some time in the second semi-final. It only took a few games for Tiafoe and Rune to get the crowd on their feet with an exchange of volleys and passing more typical of an exhibition match.
The point fell to the American, who ended up dropping the first set but came back and take the victory to secure his first Masters 1000 title of his career this Monday.
