O’Connor: “I won’t let the red jersey go, until it goes”

Date:

Ben O’Connor (Decathlon-AG2R) on his first full day as head of 79th Tour of Spain He made it clear that he will defend the red jersey as long as his strength is with him and he hopes as much as possible.

“I won’t let him get away, at least not until he leaves. We will see how the next few days develop,” he said after passing the podium.

The Australian assured that he did not feel that it was a very difficult day, neither because of the heat nor because of the climb of 14% height, although he saw how the Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora) ran to get 6 bonus seconds. “It was a dawn until the last part, which was exploding. “I feel better in the heat than I did at the beginning of the week.”

“I’m not surprised that Roglic went for the bonusbut it doesn’t seem like a super explosive attack to me. “I’m happy with what I felt today, and I’m pretty happy with what it turned out,” he said.

Because of the new attempts that the Slovenian could make to add bonuses, he admitted that “I can’t do anything about his sprint, but I have to take many seconds to recover that time. So we will see in the high mountains. ”
