Djokovic doesn’t bite his tongue on Sinner’s positives

Date:

The Serbian Novak Djokovic He spoke this Saturday about the Italian controversy Jannik Sinnerthat the positive result was left unsanctioned because it was considered a mistake by his physiotherapists, and said he understands the “frustration” of tennis players who see a “lack of consistency” in these types of protocols and process.

“These types of examples are the reason why we founded the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), which has always advocated for fair protocol, clean protocol and a standardized approach in these types of cases,” he said in a press conference at the US Open

“I understand that the frustration of the players is there because of the lack of consistency. As I understand it, his case was solved the moment it was basically announced. But I think five or six months have passed since it was given the news to him and his team. “So yes, there are many problems with the system. We see a lack of clear and standardized protocols. I understand the feelings of many players who question whether they are treated equally,” he argued.

The Serbian believed that the organizations responsible for tennis could “learn” from this case and have a better strategy in the future.

“Many players, without naming them although I’m sure you already know who they are, have had similar or somewhat similar cases where they didn’t have the same result. And now the question is whether it a question of funds, whether a player can afford to pay a large amount of money to a law firm that can represent them better in the case,” he said.

In this sense, Djokovic chose the world of tennis to study how everything can be “standardized so that every player, regardless of their rank, status or profile, is capable of having the same type of treatment.”

World number one, Sinner tested positive in March in an anti-doping test in Indian Wells (USA), but was declared innocent by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) this week, considering it was a mistake by the physical therapist of the player when using a product with clostebol, which is a banned substance.

This decision has sparked a remarkable debate in the tennis world in recent days about whether Sinner has received favored treatment for being one of the most important tennis players in the ATP at the moment.

“Of course it’s not ideal (to deal with it) before a Grand Slam, but I know I haven’t done anything wrong. I’ve been playing it over in my head for months, just reminding myself that I haven’t done anything wrong. I always I respect the rules and I always will,” Sinner said this Friday in his first media appearance.
