The first day of the US Open leaves us this Monday with a menu of very interesting matches. Half of the seeds, in both the men’s and women’s categories, will take to the court to find a spot in the second round at the final Grand Slam of the season.
Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune, Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff or Paula Badosa They are among the names selected to open the tournament in New York on a day where storms are not ruled out in the afternoon (early morning in Spain).
These are the five most famous matches from monday:
1
Novak Djokovic – Radu Albot
Arthur Ashe Runway (about 3am)
The reigning champion makes his debut in the morning against Moldovan Radu Albot, a player from the previous stage who should not worry the Serbian too much. The interest is to see the performance of the Olympic champion after a very busy summer in which physical discomfort forced him to be very careful.

2
Alexander Zverev – Maximilian Marterer
Grandstand Track (17h)
Alexander Zverev emerged as the most important rival for Novak Djokovic in the lower part of the draw. The German, who is looking to take a step forward in this US Open to get closer to the Top 3, will face Marterer, a dangerous rival on this type of courts who can take advantage of the fact that the first days are usually favorable for to surprises.

3
Paula Badosa – V. Golubic
Grandstand track (about 7pm)
Sabalenka and Gauff were the two top seeds on the day program in the women’s draw. However, for us the focus is on seeing Paula Badosa in action, looking to continue her great summer in a tournament she has never excelled at. He faces the Swiss Golubic, an affordable opponent against whom we need not let our guard down.

4
Gael Monfils – Diego Schwartzman
Grandstand track (about 10pm)
The ‘vintage’ duel of the day will be played by Gael Monfils and Diego Schwartzman. Two of the tennis classics of the past 20 years meet in what could be the final match in New York for the Argentine, who is winding down his farewell tour of the circuit. That, and seeing the always impressive Monfils in action makes the game very worthwhile.

5
Holger Rune – Brandon Nakashima
Track 17 (about 00h)
The last match we want to highlight is the one between Holger Rune and Brandon Nakashima. The good performances of the local players, added to the eternal irregularity of the Danish pearl, make the match more complicated than it seems at first.
