João Canceloa Portuguese international full-back who played on loan at FC Barcelona last season, is definitely on his way to Saudi football. The 30-year-old agreed to be a part of Al Hilal until 2027.
As reported by @FabrizioRomanoAl Hilal closed a transfer deal with Manchester City for 25 million euros. The ‘Citizen’ club has an enforceable contract with the footballer until that date and, even though he is not in its squad, it wants to get a big financial benefit in a sale operation. In a good part of this summer market window, Cancelo thought of continuing with FC Barcelona and the Barça club did not exclude it, but to extend his stay, he wanted to get a new loan from City without the obligation to buy or, in any case, at a very low price. That possibility did not develop.
In the absence of the transfer of Al Hilal as official, the same source announced that Cancelo has completed the first part of the medical examination and the verbal agreement has been made, waiting to sign the documents in the next few hours.
Cancelo joins a long list of players with extensive resumes who are starting a new phase in their career in the emerging Saudi League, although initially their intention was to continue in European football. There is talk of a salary of around 15 million euros net per season as a compelling argument when making a move that is in the process of official confirmation.
