The La Unión football team has proposed to move to Cartagena for lack of support, sources of total solvency confirm to LA VERDAD, although it will eventually remain in the sports center of the mining municipality. The idea is to set up another strong sports project, which coach Manuel Palomeque is already working on, to promote to the Second RFEF.
The Unionense directive has explored Julián Luna as president and several scenarios. Notably, one on the pitch of the San Ginés district, the 82 World Cup, sources from this Cartagena-based club confirm.
This facility will become a reference for Cartagena football before mid-2023. The City Council plans to upgrade World Cup 82 with three synthetic turf pitches, LED lighting and new irrigation systems for use by more than 200 children from San Gines and other school teams. The idea is that the facility will be one of the main venues for amateur competition and match closings.
In response to questions from this newspaper, Luna assured that ‘options’ had already been investigated weeks ago, without clarifying which ones. The president of La Unión has met with the mayor, Pedro López Milan, and has certainly given the continuity of the project in the mining municipality. He thanked the fans for support, emphasized the importance of adding sponsorship and insisted that they make a squad to “ascend” into the Second RFEF.
