The athletics world is in mourning. The Ugandan Rebecca Cheptegeiwho participated in the marathon at the last Olympic Games in Paris, died in the Kenyan hospital where she was admitted after being attacked by her boyfriendwho allegedly poured gasoline on him and set him on fire, the medical center reported this Thursday.
“Unfortunately, we lost him after all his organs failed last night.“said Dr. Owen Menach, acting director of Moi University and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, western Kenya.
The event took place last Sunday in the Kenyan county of Trans Nzoia (west)where the 33-year-old athlete was rushed to the aforementioned hospital due to the severity of many burns on 80 percent of his body.
