The FIFA Museum in Zurich celebrated in a ceremony attended by several legendary female footballers the expansion of its section dedicated to the Women’s World Cup, to further publicize an increasingly popular tournament of which Spain is the current champion.
The Norwegian Ann Kristin Aarones (1995 World Cup champion), the German Ariane Hingst (who lifted the trophy in 2003 and 2007) and the Brazilian Formiga, who holds the record for the footballer who has played in the most World Cups (7), was in charge of presiding over the ceremony.
In one of the museum’s rooms, where one of the venue’s star objects, the World Cup, is on display, more materials dedicated to the Women’s World Cup can now be admired, including t-shirts and shoes that worn by three players mentioned in tournament matches. .
Nine World Cups
The Women’s World Cup has so far been held in nine editions, the first being in China in 1991, and the team with the most titles is the United States with four, followed by two from Germany, while Norway, Japan and Spain have one each.
The next women’s World Cup will be held in 2027 in Brazil, a country that despite being the most successful men’s World Cups with 5, has yet to achieve success with a women’s team, although it reached the final in 2007.
Germany and Spain are the only countries to have won the World Cup in men’s and women’s football.
