The Australian cyclist Michael Matthewsfrom the Jayco AlUla team, achieved his third win in Quebec Grand Prix by winning the sprint this Friday after 201.6 kilometers with a start and finish in the Canadian city of this test of the UCI World Tour, where the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) reappeared after their victory in Tour de France with seventh place.
Michael Matthews, previously back-to-back winners of the 2018 and 2019 editions, imposed his powerful finish to beat Eritrean Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) and Frenchman Rudy Molard (Groupama-FDJ) to the finish line, which accompanied him to the podium.
With this, there are now 42 victories for the 33-year-old Australian, and the second in 2024, after the one achieved in mid-January at the Ceramic Route-Castellón Grand Prix.
After a long break since winning his third Tour de France in July, Pogacar competed this Friday in Quebec to fine-tune his set-up for the World Championships.
He finished in seventh place tied with Mathews. This Sunday Pogacar also plans to compete in the Montreal Grand Prix.
Spanish Pello Bilbao, from Bahrain-Victorius, qualified in ninth place.
