Thirty-six hours after competing in the 1,500 meters final of the Diamond League in Brussels, Jakob Ingebrigtsen made his half marathon debut in Copenhagen (Denmark) finishing in 34th place with a time of 1h03:13, in a race won by Kenyan Sebastian Sawe.
The Norwegian started the race at a very high speed, at 2:45 per kilometeralways in the leading group, but in the middle of the race he stopped, threatened to withdraw, but decided to continue slower, with no desire to win, and went to the finish line in 1h03:13.
“I tried to be at the top of the leading group but my legs were too tired. During the course many people encouraged me to continue. 21 km is definitely too long. I will not try it again within how many years It’s fun but it’s hard. This is not my thing, at least for now“said the Norwegian at the end of the race.
The winner was Kenyan Sebastian Sawe, who stopped the clock at 58:05ahead of Ugandan Jakob Kiplimo (58:09), second, and Kenyan Isaiah Lasoi (58:10).
In the women’s race, victory went to Kenyan Margaret Chelimo (1h05:11), followed by her compatriots Judy Kemboi (1h05:43) and Catherine Reline (1h06:09).
