José María Calzón received this Thursday, at the RCDE Stadium, the recognition of all Spanish and Catalan football in a trajectory of more than 40 years as the delegate of the first group of RCDE Spanish. In a massive event, the Asturian is, in spite of himself, the undisputed star which ends (or not…) a very long career of serving the colors and a club that cannot be understood without his work in the shadows, without his character, without his drive or his charisma.
Only a figure like Calzón could be together in the same room former coaches parakeets like Clemente, Camacho, Pochettino, Sergio González, Carcelén or David Gallego; to a delegation from current templateled by coach Manolo González and captain Sergi Gómez; in former players such as Pineda, Golobart, Iñaki, Robi, N’Kono, Mágico Díaz, Eloy, Escaich, Raúl Longhi, Molinos, Toni Jiménez, Sergio García, Víctor Sánchez, Pablo Zabaleta…; in former presidents from the club like Dani Sánchez Llibre or Joan Collet or another historical like Pedro Tomás, former manager of the entity and former president of LaLiga; to Spanish employees, that family without which the entity will not work or what it is; to the representatives of all Football establishments in Spainsuch as Luis Medina Cantalejo (president of the Technical Committee of Referees), David Aganzo (president of the AFE), of LaLiga, of the Catalan Federation…; delegates of many First Division teams (Chendo, Voro, Gudelj, Marcos Senna, Mejuto González…), as well as representatives of all State security forces. And an infinity of friends (among them, many representatives of the ‘canallesca’, as he always referred to the news media) and relatives who wanted to join him in a tribute as sincerely deserved.
crowd of anecdotes The interventions of a press wonderfully represented by Mª Carmen Juárez and Juan Terrats, by Dani Sánchez Llibre, by Clemente, Camacho and Pochettino… appeared in them, for those who do not know him, the unique personality of a Asturian good, grumpy as he is lovable, capable of cooking fabadas in the club’s facilities, of delaying planes, of harassing anyone necessary for the benefit of the club. spanish and many other things left in the pipeline and, why not, in the secret of the summary.
José María leaves (we have to see this…) but the ‘Calzón saga’ continues with the figure of his son. William (Willy)who took over as the delegate of the first team. He is about to be 79 years old, more than half committed to ‘his’ Spanish.
A part of the shield is missing, the flagpole… This can be defined in many ways. He, surely, would prefer to be remembered for what he was: a dedicated man in body and soul in his work and in the club his whole life. Still spanish which cannot be understood without his incomparable figure.
