After reviewing all the data collected in previous trials of MotoGP in Misano, Michelin decided to back off and not release a new front tire in 2025 as planned. This is confirmed Piero Taramasso, its director, during the GP of Emilia Romagna.
The rain on Monday in the Rimini area disrupted the plans and they had it alone half an hour with meaningful notes. For this reason, Michelin considers that it is not representative enough and therefore has to wait until 2026.
“After the Misano test we analyzed all the results, both the drivers’ comments and the data, and we made the decision that the new front wheel will not be introduced in 2025, as originally planned, but we will do it later,” Taramasso said in words reported by Motorsport.com.
“There are several reasons that led us to make this decision. One is that, this year, we have introduced a new set of compounds, front and rear, and we have seen, in all circuits and based on time, that they work and which are great in both grip and performance, because we broke almost all the records. They haven’t reached the limit yet, so there is still margin in these tires. Therefore, we decided to bet on continuity and continue with these compounds in the next season as well.
“Another reason is that the test at Misano went well, because the comments from the drivers were quite aligned. Everyone felt that there was potential in this tire, that there was more grip, and that, even it moves a little, it offers good sensations and a good response, however, they also pointed out that the behavior is different compared to the current rubber, so sIt takes time to get used to the sensations, and you also have to adapt your riding style.. And these are the things that take time,” he concluded.
Michelin’s contract with MotoGP runs until 2026, ahead of major regulatory changes that will change motorcycles as we know them. However, the French brand has already pointed out that its intention is to renew and accept the challenge of adapting to new designs.
