Raducanu retired with a foot injury from the WTA in Seoul

Date:

Due to a foot injury, former US Open champion Emma Raducanu was forced to withdraw from her Seoul WTA quarter-final match against top seed Daria Kasatkina after losing the first set, 6-1 on Saturday.

The Brit struggled to serve with his injured left foot, his supporting leg, while playing after a medical timeout, committed a double fault and failed to chase back down the court.

The leg injury also appeared in the round of 16 against Yuan Yue, where Raducanu was able to continue after a medical break and win 6-4, 6-3.

“I feel sorry for Emma… it’s easy to get injured, especially in these tournaments,” Kasatkina said. “I wish he gets well soon.”

The winner of the match between fourth seed Diana Shnaider and fifth seed Marta Kostyuk will face Kasatkina in the semifinals on Saturday after rain prevented play on Friday in Seoul.

Earlier, the third seed, Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, eliminated loser Polina Kudermetova by 6-2 and 6-1 and will face Veronika Kudermetova in the semifinals, who defeated Viktoriya Tomova by 7-5 and 6 -3.
