The Spanish Juan Ayusofrom UAE Team Emirates, won this Saturday in the fourth and penultimate stage of Tour of Luxembourga 15.5 kilometer individual time trial starting and ending in Differdange and after that the Dutchman Mathieu Van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) regained the leader’s jersey with one day to go.
Juan Ayuso, 22, was the fastest in the Tour of Luxembourg time trial by setting a time of 12’41″18 minutes. He was 7″09 seconds ahead of the Italian Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain-Victorius), at 11:31 in Danish Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek), in 14″89 in Swiss Marc Hirschi (UAE Team Emirates) and at 19″12 a Van der Poel.
This Saturday is Ayuso’s eighth victory as a professional cyclist and the fourth of 2024, the year in which he won the first stage of the Tireno-Adriatico, the Faun-Ardèche and the Itzulia-Vuelta al País Vasco.
Mathieu Van der Poel, who regained the leader’s jersey that Vansevenant took from him on Friday, will face the fifth and final stage this Sunday in first with an advantage of 3 seconds over Ayuso and the Belgian, 8 over Hisrchi, event champion in 2023; and 10 on the Tiber.
The race ends on a 176.9 kilometer route between Mersch and the capital, Luxembourg.
