The board of directors will decide tomorrow on the call for elections

Date:

The board of directors of Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) will decide this Wednesday on its elections, after the Sports Administrative Court (TAD) annulled four days ago, the process to elect a president and complete the 2020-2024 mandate due to the disqualification of Pedro Rocha began.

The TAD, which disqualifies Rocha two years last July for exceeding his duties by dismissing the general secretary a year ago, Andreu Camps, when he headed the RFEF management commission, annulled the presidential elections on the same day that María Ángeles García Chaves, ‘Yaye’, is going to be proclaimed president, as the only candidate.

The court upheld the appeal of Miguel Galán, president of CENAFE (National Center for the Training of Football Coaches), against the calling of these elections, because the General Assembly of the RFEF has not yet declared the removal of Rocha as president.

For the TAD, the disqualification of Rocha for two years does not automatically issue his dismissal, a situation that, according to the RFEF Laws, is the responsibility of the General Assembly of the organization and therefore it is not possible to apply article 31.8 of these regulations as it did in the RFEF, to form its Management Commission and call elections for the position of president on the last day 9.

Because of this decision, the RFEF Electoral Commission filed yesterday the appeals it received against the proclamation of García Chaves and the RFEF proceeded to convene its board tomorrow, which must decide on the current situation.

A year of uncertainty to renew the presidency

The electoral process of the RFEF, after the resignation of Luis Rubiales in September 2023, due to the disqualification of FIFA for three years for his behavior and the kiss of Jenni Hermoso in the final of the Women’s World Cup, has had many stopping at the last anus.

Led by Rocha, who became sole vice president of the managing committee due to Rubiales’ departure, the RFEF requested permission from the Higher Sports Council (CSD) to hold elections to its assembly, presidency and delegate commission. for 2024 2028 in the first quarter of this year, before the Paris Games.

The CSD, then led by Víctor Francos, authorized it on October 11 of last year and last February, with José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes as Secretary of State, the RFEF set the presidential elections for May 24.

A month later, the TAD, following a complaint by Miguel Galán, ruled that the RFEF Management Commission could only call elections for the president to end Rubiales’ mandate and not a complete process to renew the assembly, the presidency and the delegated commission.

The RFEF continued to call these elections and on April 12, its Electoral Commission proclaimed Pedro Rocha as the sole candidate, with a total of 107 endorsements out of a possible 138. The other candidates, journalist Carlos Herrera, the lawyer Eva Parera and the former president of Córdoba, Javier González Calvo, did not show any endorsement.

On the same date, Rocha testified as a witness in the Majadahonda court investigating possible corruption in the federation’s contracts during the time of Luis Rubiales, where the Extremaduran leader was economic vice president, and during his testimony changed by judge his status as a witness. . has investigated.

This change did not prevent Rocha from being declared president on April 26, the date on which he appointed a board of directors with 20 members, 12 men and 8 women, including María Ángeles García Chaves as second vice president, and called a full election for September 10.

On April 26, the RFEF Electoral Commission proclaimed him president (107 endorsements out of a possible 138) and appointed a board of directors with 20 members, 12 men and 8 women, including María Ángeles García Cheves from Extremadura as deputy vice president. and called complete. election for September 10.

On July 16, as a resolution of another appeal by Galán, the TAD removed Rocha for two years for a very serious violation according to the Sports Law, for exceeding his duties as president of the management company due to the dismissal to the general secretary. Andrew. Camps a year ago.

Rocha requested the precautionary suspension of his sanction and since it was rejected earlier this month by the Central Court of Administrative Litigation number 2 of the National Court, the board of directors again became the manager and called the presidential elections that have now been annulled of TAD to end Rubiales’ mandate that should have ended on September 21.
