Athletics and running dominate screens around the world. After the success of Sprintthe Netflix series about the fastest athletes on the planet, has arrived Ingebrigtsen – Bon to runa story based on the lives of the brothers who changed the history of Norwegian athletics.
The new documentary series, available on Amazon Prime Video, presents the first season with six episodes of 30 minutes each covering the life of Henrik, Filip and Jacob Ingebrigtsenthe three athletic prodigy brothers.
The story began in July 2012, when the oldest of them, Henrik, won the 1,500m final in Helsinki European and declared continental champion.
So “a new era of Norwegian athletics begins,” says sports journalist Jann Post, one of the many qualified voices appearing in the series directed by Andreas Meier Eide.
And he’s not wrong. Four years later, Filip, the middle brother, repeated the victory and got the gold medal in Amsterdam European. But the most impressive will come from the hand (or foot) of younger brother Jakob, who not only won two golds in Berlin European 2018 at the age of 20, but he soon became the best middle distance runner in the world by taking many world titles at distances from 1,500m to 5,000m, including two Olympic golds.
But not all that glitters is gold in this family of athletes. In October 2023, the brothers made public a complaint against his father and coach, Gjert Ingebrigtsenfor domestic violence and physical abuse. The Norwegian prosecutor’s office formally charged the coach, who stopped training his children last year due to an alleged medical leave.
Ingebrigtsen – Born to run accompanies the three Ingebrigtsen sisters through the most difficult period of their careers, when without a coach and affected by injuries they have to face important family challenges and prepare for the European Championships in Rome and the Olympic Games in Paris.
