Ernesto Valverde strongly condemned the incidents caused by a group of Athletic radicals after Aitor Paredes scored 1-1. The ultras launched flares against Roma fans. Iñaki Williams and De Marcos went to blame him in the stands, as did Valverde. Before starting the press conference, Txingurri wanted to send a message to position himself against these events.
“We have not entered Europe for a long time and we have come to play here. We regret the events that took place at the end, especially to some of our fans. They don’t represent the majority of our fans, which is the best. In the same way that we don’t like it the other way around, we also don’t like flares being thrown at local people. We regret it because for us it is a stain on the game,” said the Athletic coach.
