Newington President Paul Hamilton Adopts Tunnel Vision on PIL . Tour

Date:

Newington’s Paul Hamilton says they have adopted a tunnel vision approach to the Premier League this season.

North Belfast won 1-0 in Saturday’s title hunt against Dollingstone.

Odan Jilin’s goal just a minute before the break was enough for Newington to score an invaluable three points and keep Armagay City and Bangor above them.

“We’re going to win everything at this point in the season. That’s it,” Hamilton-Match said on Tuesday.

“We’re not worried about Armag and Bangor, we can’t control their results if we don’t play.

“Our only focus is on ourselves and everything that happens elsewhere will happen. We need to take a look at our results and see where they lead us.

“We have some momentum to build. This is our third win in the tournament.

After losing in the middle of the final, we focused on the tournament. If we go on and win all our games, who is to say we can’t become the league champions?

The boys have accepted this challenge and we have to keep winning and earning points.

Hamilton added: “Promotion is our goal, and that’s what we strive to achieve.

“The division is coming soon, so there are going to be some huge matches. The top six are playing each other, which is good and that is where we want to be.

“I am very proud of the players this season. They were great. Sometimes I noticed bad things, but the guy showed loyalty and diligence to do the job.

“We won the Steel and Boys Cup, which was on our radar. He was also a mediator. But the guys are great. We have a great team and if a player gets injured we have another team ready to play.”

“Sometimes it’s a headache for the management team, but it’s a huge headache.”

In a game multiple times, Gillen’s one-way goal made all the difference on Saturday at Solitude.

Hamilton admits he was not surprised by the tension of the match, which was almost repeated in the previous league game, between the two teams at Planter Park, which also ended with Newington winning 1-0.

He added: “It was a very close affair and there wasn’t much in it.

“We took that opportunity and were able to take it out before the first half. It was a good time to score and it made talking to the team a little easier.

“Then we were able to keep them in the second half, but Dollingstone’s fair play because they were trying to separate us.

We’re happy to have a goal and a win and that’s another three important points. We have a hunt.

“We knew it was going to be a tough issue. We beat them 1-0 straight away and it was a closed match, so we knew it would be the same this time.

“We might have been killed, but we didn’t take advantage of the other possibilities we had.

Newington won’t return to the league until next Wednesday, when they host Portstewart in Solitude, while their two main title rivals play games this weekend.

“Let’s play a little more, and that’s not ideal,” Hamilton added.

“We don’t have a match this weekend when there are teams around us. We tried to get the game, but unfortunately it didn’t work out.

Next Saturday we will train again and give the boys a break. They have done a very good job and will give some healing.

“We will train on Tuesday and Thursday, and then we will play a game against Portstewart in the middle of the week. So we will focus on that.”
