Paula Badosa continues to extend her sweet moment of form on the WTA circuit. The Catalan player reached the semifinals of the WTA 1000 in Beijing this Thursday after defeating the Chinese Shuai Zhang in two sets.
Badosa won 6-1 7-6(4) against the Asian player, number 595 in the world, to reach the penultimate round of the tournament without complications. She continued the good sensations shown in the quarterfinals against Jessica Pegula and will play her second straight semifinals in a WTA 1000.
After reaching the penultimate round in Cincinnati, where she decisively lost to Pegula, Badosa is waiting on Chinese soil for the winner of the quarterfinal duel between Coco Gauff and Yulia Starodubtseva. He does so with great emotion again after a match with Zhang in which he dominated the first set and in which he knew how to suffer in the second.
A stormy start to serve and others allowed Badosa to add four consecutive games, including two in the remainder and a blank, to get back on track for the first set which closed at 6-1. However, an error in the first game of the second set on serve forced the Spaniard to row with a break down. He regained it in the sixth game of the set, was stronger on his serve and decided in the tie-break of a match in which he was very confident on his first serve but in which he took the second as the key aspect of improvement for the semifinals.
They will be the fifth for her in a WTA 1000.
